A New Sun Rises

.
PARK CITY (AP)—Dave Barton is no longer the face of the Park City Sundancers franchise. (Pause for dramatic effect.) Oh, he still runs the team and everything—really we just wanted to grab your attention. What we meant by that slightly misleading opener is the Sundancers logo that bears his likeness is being done away with.

At the unveiling of the team's striking new identity, team owner and graphics designer Dave Barton was surprisingly frank. "When I was first awarded a franchise in 2006, I dilly-dallied for several months before finally throwing together our original logos just a few short weeks before the season started. And to be honest with you I was never totally happy with them. Each subsequent season since then, adjustments to our identity, and even name changes (Sleepy Hollow Horsemen, anyone?), have been bandied about, but nothing has ever come of it. Until now."

"I think this team proved last year that we are one of the WFBL's marquee franchises, and this new set of logos conveys that quite literally. We wanted to maintain the same bold color scheme and film festival spirit, while placing more emphasis on the sun. Then, to tie it all together, everything was wrapped in the design-y goodness of art deco."

When asked what was different about his creative process this time around, Barton continued, "I was once again given several months to work, and...well, I pretty much dilly-dallied most of my time away again. But luckily, after having contemplated what these new logos might look like for the better part of the last three years, they came together fairly smoothly."

"What it comes down to is this—the fates didn't allow us to win it all last year. While we unquestionably had a championship-caliber team, our old logos wouldn't have produced championship-caliber merchandise, and isn't that really what it's all about?"

"It sure is!" piped in the Commissioner, marking one of the few times in the history of the WFBL that Barnes and Barton were in agreement on something.
